Karen and I have been busy resurrecting furniture pieces for the Boutique since October. But we have been recreating furniture pieces for our own homes for years.
And through all of these years, this is one of those pieces that when I saw the end result I thought: AMAZING. And I am NOT tooting my own horn! 🙂 I am actually giving a big shout out to Karen and Bob!
A few months ago my friend Shannon purchased a french provincial furniture set. Some of you may have read the post about her custom order, but in case you didn’t, you can read more about the furniture makeover here.
When Shannon brought the set to my home she donated the headboard to our Boutique. I was happy to accept, of course.
Karen and Bob took the headboard home and I didn’t hear about their project until I received this picture!
What a clever upcycle for an old headboard! They essentially cut a headboard in half, nailed it together at a 90 degree angle and added a seat to create a corner bench.
Karen and Bob also created a bench from a vintage bunk bed set and that was GREAT but there was something really awesome about this piece. Maybe you understand what I’m saying.
Then I was able to see the finished product (sanded, painted and all) at The Bay Village show when Bob delivered the bench to our booth…
Needless to say, this piece sold within hours! Thanks, Jan!
This upcycled headboard corner bench looks great in Jan’s dining room…
Before I wrote this post, I asked Karen to send me an email with the gist of how they created this bench. And then I received her email. In the words of my friend Woz, “oy vey”. I realized this is NOT an easy DIY. But there is HOPE because this project isn’t impossible! I’ll spare you the details for now but I’d like to post a step-by-step guide (with photos for each step) sometime in the future.
Do you have an old headboard you want converted into a corner bench? Contact us! The upcycling price on this project ranges from $75-$125
Happy Salvaging! -Kathy
